How to write telephony applications faster…without having to work harder The smart approach is to use Aculab’s AMS Server with a high-level client API. AMS Server sits above Aculab's call and speech APIs and provides VoIP telephony via high-level interfaces in programming languages such as C# and Python. These interfaces hide much of the underlying complexity, allowing developers to produce applications more quickly and efficiently, and with fewer lines of code. That leaves the application writer free to concentrate on topics such as call flow, database access and back-end processing, rather than on the low-level issues of SIP negotiation and RTP usage. Find out how to use AMS Server and its APIs from the system guide. |

Video communications Aculab’s Prosody X and Prosody S are well known for their extensive voice capabilities, but one of the more recent additions is video communications. Both platforms support H.263/H.264 encoded video communication over IP networks, and are able to play/record in the 3GPP (.3gp) file format and, uniquely, the Quicktime (.mov) file format. The video capabilities are extensions to the Prosody products, so if you have already built a voice-centric platform, then adding video capability is very straightforward. To find out more, either visit our video solutions webpage or contact your Aculab Account Manager. A recent article in Wireless Week written by Aculab’s Prosody Product Manager, Andrew Nicholson, looks at the issues being faced by infrastructure providers when video communications are rolled out: The Video Dilemma: Balancing demand with infrastructure capabilities |
