TDM boards and signalling software

Scalable TDM boards with signalling software for PSTN connectivity

Aculab offers a range of TDM boards with signalling software for applications that need PSTN connectivity and voice path switching. E1/T1 boards with software selectable trunk interfaces are available in PCI, PCI Express (PCIe) and CompactPCI (cPCI) form factors, suitable for a broad range of deployment options. These E1/T1 trunk cards offer a wide range of CAS, ISDN and SS7 signalling protocol options and provide a powerful set of advanced call processing features. Telecom signalling boards can be used to create cost-effective, high density systems running a variety of signalling and switching applications.

Boards and software

TDM boards are also available for use with our SS7 and signalling products as part of Aculab's distributed SS7 signalling architecture, which enables high capacity, high performance, multi-platform, operating system independent signalling applications. For a range of board options to use in IP networks, see Aculab's Prosody family of media processing platforms.

Scaling the heights

Aculab's high performance, standards compliant TDM boards are designed to enable connection of communications solutions to public or private circuit switched networks. They offer the essential attributes, including high density, high availability, reliability and scalability, for both enterprise and telco grade platforms. Multiple boards can be installed in single or distributed chassis configurations, enabling fundamentally scalable, high capacity solutions.

The nth protocol

Offering a broad range of worldwide protocol coverage with regulatory approvals has established Aculab as a key supplier of TDM boards for many communications solutions. The rich heritage of call control and signalling protocols available includes many different national and international variants of CAS, ISDN (including Q.SIG and DPNSS) and SS7, for operation over E1 and T1 trunks.

Uniquely, all protocols from our portfolio are available via the software download utility for interchangeable use with Aculab's TDM boards under a cost free licence. Developers can simply collect the protocol firmware, free of charge, when they need it, gaining a distinct advantage in terms of system cost and value per channel.

You can download Aculab's protocol software at any time, via our software downloads page.

Regulatory approvals

In addition, Aculab has obtained many country specific, host independent regulatory approvals, such that E1/T1 boards can be integrated into PC or server-based solutions without further telecom approvals being needed. In regions where this option is not available, Aculab has experience to offer in support of users seeking system level type approvals.

For more details on the range of protocols and type approvals, including DPNSS, Q.SIG and SS7, see the protocols and approvals page.

Meeting your needs

TDM boards from Aculab are designed to meet the needs of developers, systems integrators, telecommunications equipment manufacturers, and service providers deploying solutions worldwide. Aculab's E1/T1 boards can be used for a broad spectrum of applications including: call control and call routing; protocol conversion; directory assistance and call completion; prepaid; mass calling or televoting; and many others.

Product benefits

When selecting a TDM board, planning of international product roll out should be fully considered. Key benefits of Aculab's E1/T1 boards stem from the choice of product options and the extensive, worldwide signalling protocol coverage, including CAS, DPNSS, ISDN, Q.SIG and SS7.

  • TDM boards and signalling software providing extensive protocol support means solutions can be readily deployed anywhere in the world
  • A wide range of call control and signalling protocols, including SS7, means a variety of signalling, monitoring, switching and protocol conversion solutions can be readily crafted for international deployment
  • Signalling protocol software available under a cost free licence for use with TDM boards - improves costs, margins and ROI
  • TDM boards offer high availability, reliability and scalability - essential for telco grade server solutions
  • Scalable, high density TDM boards - up to 16 E1/T1 trunks on a single cPCI board - means system board count can be minimised, providing excellent, per channel cost-effectiveness
  • Software selectable trunk interfaces means one E1/T1 board choice meets both local and international needs - improving deployment and sparing options
  • A consistent API across the entire product range, including TDM boards, means it's easy to use Aculab boards - adding further value and reducing time to market

Performance counts

Aculab's TDM boards, signalling protocols and APIs provide developers and major equipment suppliers with the options they need to create innovative, revenue generating products for their telecom customers. Aculab's reputation for reliability and performance was forged with its E1/T1 boards, which can be used to rapidly develop scalable, high capacity terminating, monitoring and signalling solutions for fixed and mobile networks.

High availability

Aculab's TDM boards have been designed with a focus on reliability and system availability - critical requirements for a telecom server application. Variants provide SNMP, hot swap and board protection mechanisms, and support sophisticated redundancy management to allow the creation of applications with 'five 9s' availability (99.999%), independent of the final solution scale or channel count.

Distributed architecture

Critically, for resilience and failover purposes, trunks can be independently accessed by several high level applications, either on the local host or on remote machines. In case of failure of the main high level application, the board control can be switched to a remote standby alternative, thereby, providing service continuity through implementation of either N+1 or 1+1 protection schemes.

Fundamentally, this also means that applications can share TDM boards, distributed amongst different chassis platforms, offering added resilience and scalability and giving the benefit of being able to provision hardware for hosted applications in an optimal, cost-effective way.

Overall, a durable competitive advantage can be gained for a wide range of communications applications in enterprise or telco environments.
