GroomerII deployment scenarios header

GroomerII may be deployed as a signalling and media gateway by nationwide carriers, ILECs and CLECs specialising in premium rate numbers. These 08**/18** numbers are typically associated with services such as entertainment, tele-voting (mass calling) and technical support call centres.

Today, services are increasingly being delivered from IP-based application platforms distributed within IP networks. These are more cost-effective to install and maintain, and new features and service offerings can be quickly and easily rolled out for revenue opportunities to be swiftly taken.

It is essential for these services to be available to the widest demographic of callers and carriers offering hosted, IP-based, revenue generating services will want to ensure PSTN-based callers can reach their service platforms. Calls still make money and it is still the case that there are more PSTN-based callers than VoIP-based callers – by several orders of magnitude. As a consequence, connection to the PSTN is a key requirement, hence the need for SS7-to-SIP gateways.

GroomerII can be used to front IP-based application platforms and contact centres and enable carriers to rapidly introduce enhanced, revenue-generating VoIP services throughout their national or in-state PSTN and IP networks.

Key to such deployments is GroomerII’s integrated SS7 functionality, which enables the carrier to provide TDM/SS7 connectivity in a single platform throughout its distributed IP network. GroomerII also enables the delivery of SIP services into legacy ISDN/PRI and CAS networks.

Direct accessibility to IP-based call centres, via premium service numbers, provides a unique competitive advantage for carriers and allows them to deliver better quality service at lower cost. Carriers will benefit from an increased demand for services, and experience higher call minute consumption, through offering a better value proposition to their customers.

GroomerII, therefore, enables carriers to quickly add new IP-based services while providing a clear migration path to an all VoIP network.

See figure 1 for an example of a typical deployment scenario.
