Many national and international carriers are seeking outsourced solutions on both traditional TDM and next-generation VoIP technology platforms. Providers of outsourced switching solutions for telecom carriers worldwide, therefore, need to deploy integrated signalling and media gateways in their fixed and mobile networks worldwide. Requirements for VoIP gateways in this scenario include: flexible routing; transcoding; and integrated SS7 functionality that will allow the outsourcing company to provide scalable and cost-effective interconnects between carriers from their strategic switching centres – points of presence (PoPs).
