Markets are converging for fixed and mobile telephony and prepaid phone access and calling board services are in demand. The opportunities for revenue growth are enormous, yet competition is fierce. Local and independent service providers are keen to compete with Tier 1 operators and deliver next generation telephony services with flexible payment options based on prepaid universal accounts. Fixed line, mobile and VoIP operators are all active in the prosperous prepaid dial tone and long distance markets. A key advantage of offering prepaid is its solid revenue foundation. There are benefits from receiving revenue up front and avoiding bad debt and leaking profits. Premium platform service providers in the global prepaid telecommunications market can deploy GroomerII, Aculab’s integrated SS7-to-SIP signalling and media gateway, in their worldwide networks. GroomerII is ideal for next generation, hosted switching solutions such as prepaid applications, because of its powerful features, which include SS7 signalling and call termination. In addition, as an integrated, stand-alone device, GroomerII is a cost-effective solution; more so than competitive offerings requiring separate SS7 signalling units. With GroomerII there is no attendant increase in operating expenditure (OPEX) as would be the case with multiple chassis involved. In this example scenario, a centrally located facility in the home country hosts the prepaid switching platform, and GroomerII is used to facilitate overseas connections to local networks in other countries via the international SS7 network. All international calls to and from the hosted facility are routed via GroomerII, which presents a single destination point to the network.
